Have you ever had brain clog?
It’s kind of like brain fog, but a swirling sense of stuckness with a mile long list of to dos free floating around. And it feels like a clogged toilet rising and swirling. Have you ever frantically searched for that plunger? The same concept applies to brain clog.
And as you’re searching for that solution to fix the clog, you’re operating in quicksand, sinking slowly and moving in place, held back by the overwhelm that comes with the brain clog.
I’ve had those stressful moments too when I’ve experienced what Google and science call brain zaps.
Brain zaps feel like your brain is vibrating. I get them every so often when I have so much to do or process and I’m stressed out. Isn’t it amazing that the electricity our body makes can do so much? Brain zaps aren’t fully understood, according to the internet, but they are thought to occur when changes in brain functions occur like coming off of medications or experiencing emotions like anxiety or stress.
Recently, I was sitting at work grappling with brain clog only to find myself in a meeting. A million things to do and no time to do it.
What do you do when you get a clogged brain?
As a public relations practitioner and former journalist, I live the fast life and information always seems to pour in. And I have to make it understandable and I have to adapt quickly. The difference in my day can be one phone call away. But I’ve learned a few things along the way.
I’ll share how I manage my days in some practical tidbits below:
Make your list and check it twice! You might not be, Santa, but when you forget things it doesn’t feel nice! Writing it all out makes it less overwhelming and easy to visualize and tackle.
Prioritize and manage your time wisely. Put numbers beside your high priority items.
Multitask. If you can’t finish one item, work as long as you can on it then move to another item until you can check them off one by one or even two by two!
Collaborate. If you’re like me, you have to ask questions to get answers because you don’t have all the answers. And it’s important to know asking for assistance is sometimes essential to accomplishing goals and crushing it (in a good way).
Encourage yourself. Give yourself credit for all you have done. Remind yourself you are one person and you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.
Take a deep breath and take a break if you need to collect your thoughts.
Remember, you’ve got this. You’ve faced challenges before and conquered them!
Conquer that brain clog!
Remember, you can totally handle this, friend!
