Life lessons over lunch: Soul food and constructive conviction

I love lunch breaks.
Really.
Love them.
I love nothing more than chowing down to yummy food and soul food too. I love a good podcast or sermon and recently I’ve been tuning into Sadie Robertson’s “Whoa That’s Good Podcast.” And let me tell you, I’ve been soaking in all the stories from other believers and really doing some spiritual auditing of my walk.
One thing that Sadie shared recently hit home as a mom with shrinking time on the clock and a guilt of not always getting up and in the word with God.
“We definitely don’t do as much as we used to. But I love God more now than ever. God really is in it all. I’m taking Him with me day to day and He is here all day every day,” Sadie said, sharing that she doesn’t always have time to get up very early and get in the word like she used to since having children.
She also spoke of how her husband encouraged her to reframe the feeling of conviction into an opportunity to do better. God is correcting you because He cares.
Good stuff, right?
What if we looked at that holy correction as an opportunity to improve and go deeper with God?
I love constructive criticism because I want to be better!
God, help me to remember You are with me here in this moment. You have seen the future all the way to the end of my life. And there is not a moment I will be without You. May I live in this truth as I live in Your undeserved grace each day. Thank You, Father, for the power of lunch breaks and of our testimonies that edify others. May we never stop sharing them or take them for granted. And may we never forget You are always at work in us. Thank You, Father, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Proverbs 3:11–12 (NLT)
“My child, don’t reject the Lord’s discipline, and don’t be upset when he corrects you. For the Lord corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.”
Matthew 28:20b (NLT)
“And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
