Kindness
It’s an umbrella on a rainy day,
Sharing a smile to brighten a stranger’s gaze in passing,
It’s warm and it’s cozy like a cup of coffee on a snowy day,
It’s boundless and free,
And the more you give
The more you receive.
Virtuous
May they call you virtuous when God calls you home,
May your memory spark joy in somebody’s heart as they remember you,
May they recall times you gave much in their time of need, moments when you held them tight and most of all how you took time to shine a light to guide them on their way through the darkest days life dealt them,
May your life be full of wonder and joy and void of vast regrets,
When your time on earth is done, may they call you virtuous.
More than words
The feeling of dread and fear,
The joy of holding loved ones near,
The gratitude of a cold drink after a hard day’s work,
A warm coat on a winter’s day,
The feeling of being next to him as the weight of the world on my shoulders lessens,
How he holds me when I hurt,
How he listens when I blurt out my feelings,
How this whole world goes around year in and year out and our lives leave us reeling as seasons change and nothing ever stays the same.
I am convinced of this truth:
Some things can’t be expressed adequately
Because all these miracles are simply, deeply and irrevocably beyond words.
You
What was I living for before you were born?
Ten little fingers and ten little toes,
Little blue eyes and a cute button nose stare back at me,
And as much as I dreamt of these moments,
As much as I prayed
As much as I wondered what would become of these days,
I sit here now and contemplate what I did or how I lived before you came to be.
I didn’t know it then, but now I do
The best part of me will always be you.
As I am
I’m not perfect,
Don’t pick me apart
I’m not keeping up with the Joneses,
Don’t pick me apart
I’m not keeping my emotions under wraps,
Don’t pick me apart
I’m not a puzzle or an equation to be solved,
Don’t pick me apart
I’m just an sojourner in this life,
Don’t pick me a part
You’ve not walked in my shoes, you’ve not carried my burdens,
Don’t pick me apart
Though I’m weary and weak, in God I am strong. I lay myself down and give my heart to Him in song,
Don’t pick me apart
Just take me and embrace me as I am, full of flaws, full of good intentions, full of love, full of pain unmentioned,
And I will do the same for you if you promise not to pick me apart.
