The power of ‘I get it’: When being understood matters most

Three words everyone wants to hear most. And go!
You’re thinking it’s “I love you.”
In my experience, “I get it” hits another level.
I’ve had a hard day.
I haven’t slept more than three hours.
I’m having struggles with this area.
Being a new mom is challenging.
I am struggling to balance all these demands.
Then they respond with “I get it” and somehow all is well.
All is right in the world.
You don’t feel crazy.
You feel understood.
Because you aren’t the only one dealing with challenges.
And it sure helps to have someone to help lighten the load.
The Bible tells us to carry each others burdens (Galatians 6:2).
It also says to cast your cares on God because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).
It also reminds us that nothing can separate us from God’s love (Romans 8:38–39) and that we should talk to God all the time (pray unceasingly) (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
But the one we don’t hear about the most is the one about our brothers and sisters going through challenges too (1 Peter 5:9).
Perhaps, the most powerful message of them all is that Jesus who lived perfectly didn’t gloss over hardships, He met people in the middle of them. And He reminded them then and reminds us still that He is with us.
And that we are understood by the God who knit us together (Psalms 139) in the womb.
So yeah.
He loves us.
And He understands us.
Yet, He chooses us.
The question is, do we choose Him back? What do we do with a love so great?
Perhaps, the next words are the most powerful of them all.
