When God gives us more than we can carry

There are rarely ever quiet moments for school communicators during the school year. There are always moments to be captured, stories to be told and unique situations to be managed. When the media calls, we better be ready with a statement. When the boss calls, we better be ready to take action.

But recently I was granted somewhat of a reprieve from scurrying about as I traveled to Raleigh for business. I had hours of quiet time and nothing to do but think.

I didn’t expect God to meet me there.

I didn’t expect for Him to speak.

But He did. So clearly.

I’m a perfectionist type A Libra with the spiritual gift of listening and the blessing of a scattered brain that constantly houses swirling thoughts and alphabet soup. I’m a heck of a multitasker and a firm believer in checklists and persistent positivity. I’m also a mom of an infant and a wife of a tired husband.

Do you get it now?

No time to stop and sit.

I’ve been planning some huge initiatives for the school district and juggling so much I fear what I may drop.

But God met me in the middle of that thought.

He said “I gave you too much on purpose. You can’t juggle everything I gave you. You’re not superwoman. And you don’t have to be as much as you try to. I gave you all of these blessings and all of these responsibilities and all of these tasks to do because I wanted You to give them back to me. I filled your arms with more than you could carry so you would lay it down and give it to Me.”

What a word!

I needed a word from my Father.

Imagine a stubborn eight year old with a book bag filled with items falling out as she marches down the hallway all huffy. And her Father tells her to let Him help her. She doesn’t have to give up all the items she loves or the independence but she does get to give up the struggle. Her Father knows all of this yet He is so patient.

Imagine her walking with a full book bag, hand in hand with her Father. He has the heaviest things in His arm and a smile that reassures her that He has her back and she doesn’t have to do it all. He reminds her that He can carry her too when she feels too tired to walk.

I’m that stubborn little girl.

And yet He stands with me, holding my hand and even carrying me through days when I feel too tired to walk.

What a Good, Good Father!

Thank You, God, that when You give us a mission or assignment or answered prayers, You give us the strength to walk in Your love and Your calling. We need You to fulfill the purpose You have for our lives to serve You and others with the God given gifts You’ve written on our hearts.

Bread for Today

1 Peter 5:7 - Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

Matthew 11:28-30 - “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
